Italian, Mathematics, and Technology Training Courses

by | 24 Aug 2024 | Environment

From September, the pilot project for training vouchers promoted by the Department of Education, Culture, and Sport (DECS) will continue. A new range of Italian, Mathematics, and Technology courses is ready.

Local events with the Millestrade van and the promotional campaign “Simply Better” will support this second phase of the pilot project, which aims to promote the recovery of basic skills useful in professional and daily life.

The pilot project for training vouchers—managed by the Office of Continuing Education and Innovation (UFCI) within the Professional Training Division (DFP)—started on March 5, 2024, offering 160 vouchers, each worth CHF 500, for use in basic reading, writing, mathematics, and technology courses.

Eligible for the vouchers are residents of the Canton of Ticino aged between 18 and 65, who are Swiss nationals or hold a C or B permit and do not benefit from socio-professional integration measures or unemployment benefits. Basic knowledge of Italian (level A2) is also required.

The new catalog of basic skills courses, resuming in September, features the training offers from the participating institutions: CFP-OCST, Croce Rossa Ticino Course Section, ECAP Ticino Unia, and the Institute for Continuing Education (IFC).

Course registrations can be made through the following link: www.ifc.ti.ch/competenzebase.

To inform the public, advertise the initiative, and assist interested individuals in signing up for courses, the Office of Continuing Education and Innovation, together with the training institutions, will be present:

  • Saturday, August 24, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Piazza del Sole in Bellinzona
  • Sunday, September 8, on International Literacy Day, at Tenero during Sportissima.

In Ticino, the national campaign “Simply Better,” which resumed on August 19, has been adapted with messages and slogans related to the voucher pilot project.

The pilot project will continue until October or until the vouchers are exhausted and will be followed by an external evaluation to gather useful information to understand the organizational, administrative, and financial sustainability of the project. Professionals in contact with individuals facing difficulties with basic skills are encouraged to inform them about this valuable opportunity and to promote enrollment in the courses.

Training Vouchers

The Professional Training Division (DFP), on behalf of the Department of Education, Culture, and Sport (DECS), has launched a pilot project for “Training Vouchers” to encourage adults with limited basic skills to enroll in continuing education courses.

The initiation of this pilot project was prompted by the motion presented by Anna Biscossa titled “A Training Voucher to Enhance the Basic Skills of Residents and Improve Workers’ Skills,” accepted in 2023.

The pilot project began in early March 2024 and will continue until the end of October or until the vouchers are exhausted.

The pilot project includes the allocation of 160 vouchers, each worth CHF 500. Each participant is entitled to receive only one voucher. If a participant does not attend at least 60% of the scheduled classes, the cost of their participation will not be covered and must be borne directly by the participant.

The voucher can be used to participate in one course worth CHF 500 or two courses worth CHF 250 each. If the cost of the course exceeds the value of the voucher, the difference must be covered by the participant.
