Turnover in the Swiss services sector declined by 11.0% in September 2023

Services turnover adjusted for working days fell by 11.0% in September 2023 compared with the same month last year.

Wholesale trade continued to have a large influence on this trend. These are provisional findings from the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).

 

The economic sector “Wholesale and retail trade” recorded a decline in turnover of 18.4% in September 2023 compared with the same month of the previous year and the economic sector “Transportation and storage” also reduced its turnover (-0.9%).

In the economic sector “Accommodation and food service activities” (+10.9%), the figures went up in September 2023 compared with September 2022 and the “Information and communication” division also reported a positive result (+7.8%).

The economic sector “Real estate activities” showed decreasing turnover figures (-7.4%), while the sector “Professional, scientific and technical activities” achieved an increase in turnover of 3.0%.

Finally, the turnover of the economic section “Administrative and support service activities” grew (+5.4%), with the sector “Travel agency and tour operator activities” continuing to register high growth rates (+21.5%).
